Moana and All Rise star Auli’i Cravalho is set to make her Netflix debut in All Together Now, the movie adaptation of Silver Linings Playbook author Mathew Quick’s novel Sorta Like a Rock Star. Netflix released the trailer for the upcoming film Monday, which will be available to stream August 28. Entertainment Weekly had the exclusive for the news.
Directed by Brett Haley, the movie was also adapted by Haley along with Quick and Marc Basch. Fred Armisen, Carol Burnett, Rhenzy Feliz, Judy Reyes, Taylor Richardson, C.S. Lee, Anthony Jacques Jr. and Gerald Isaac Waters also star alongside Cravalho.
The film follows Amber Appleton (Cravalho), a musically talented teen part of her high school drama club who seems to have it all in her life. But the reality is much harsher than that. Every night, Appleton sleeps on a school bus alongside her mom (Justina Machado) and has to work long hours at a doughnut shop to support them. All the while, she remains optimistic and holds on tight to her dreams of attending Carnegie Mellon University.
Before landing with Netflix, the rights to Sorta Like a Rock Star’s film was originally picked up by then-Fox Searchlight, which released Silver Linings Playbook, in 2013. The news of Netflix, Cravalho and Haley working together on the film was initially covered in July 2019.
The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman and Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner are the producers of the film.
