Netflix Releases First Look At ‘The Deliverance’, A Horror Film Based On A True Story

Netflix debuted a first look at its upcoming horror film The Deliverance on Tuesday, giving the audience a taste of the heart-wrenching horror/thriller based on a shocking true story. Set to debut in theaters on August 16 before streaming on Netflix starting August 30, the film stars Andra Day as Ebony Jackson, a single mother struggling to make ends meet who moves her family to a new home in India, only to be confronted with several frightening demonic occurrences. As the increasingly unsettling supernatural occurrences catch the attention of Child Protective Services, Jackson finds herself fighting for the lives and souls of her children.

A very sought-after feature, seven other parties are reported to have been involved in the bidding war for the film rights before Netflix won with an offer upwards of 65 million dollars. With the market for horror movies seeing a decline in recent years, the staggering offer suggests that Netflix producers have confidence in the film’s quality and marketability, making The Deliverance one of the more highly anticipated Netflix originals of the year. Also starring Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, and Caleb McLaughlin, the film is being directed by Lee Daniels off of the script by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum.
