Netflix has released a trailer for a new animated film titled Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood. The film’s conflict revolves around a mistake made by NASA in which the measurements of the lunar module were miscalculated to be too small. Due to this mistake, a child is selected to become an astronaut and go to the moon. The film takes place in the 1960s and has an emphasis on showing the culture of the time through the child’s eyes. There is a scene depicting children watching a NASA launch in school as well as references to hippie culture.
The film stars Glen Powell, who is known for the role of Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Jack Black, known for School of Rock, and Zachary Levi, known for his role as Shazam in the Shazam! franchise. The film is directed by Richard Linklater, known for Boyhood and A Scanner Darkly. According to Deadline, the film takes inspiration from Linklater’s experience as a child growing up in this era. The trailer shows off the film’s animation style, which is the same animation style used in Linklater’s previous animated film A Scanner Darkly.
