Netflix is currently in the final stages of negotiating a deal for the global rights to the conspiracy thriller Pain Hustlers, which is currently in pre-production. The film boasts a script from The True American author Wells Tower. Tower is a prolific short fiction writer, with his work being seen in GQ and his 2009 short story collection Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned, which was put at number 9 in the 10 best books of 2009 by The New York Times’ Michiko Kakutani. The film is being helmed by David Yates, most known for his directing efforts in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchises. Also, Jungle Cruise and A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt will lead the film..
The logline for the film is “Dreaming of a better life for her and her young daughter, Liza Drake (Blunt), a high-school dropout, lands a job with a failing pharmaceutical start-up in a yellowing strip mall in Central Florida. Liza’s charm, guts and drive catapult the company and her into the high life, where she soon finds herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences. In the vein of ‘The Big Short,’ ‘American Hustle’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ ‘Pain Hustlers’ is a hilarious, dramatic and wild journey to the corrupt heart of the American dream.”
Production is set to start on August 22
