Netflix has officially confirmed that production has commenced in the United Kingdom on The Inbetweeners 3, marking the return of the acclaimed British comedy franchise for a third feature film.
The original central cast, Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas, are all reprising their roles as suburban school friends Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland, and Simon Cooper, respectively. Franchise co-creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have also returned to write and co-direct the project. The announcement follows a teaser video shared by Netflix showing the four lead actors reconvening inside the series’ signature yellow Fiat Cinquecento.
The project marks the first on-screen outing for the quartet in 12 years, following 2014’s theatrical sequel The Inbetweeners 2. Originally broadcast on Channel 4 and E4 from 2008 to 2010 across three seasons, the coming-of-age sitcom centered on the awkward misadventures and social tribulations of four teenagers at Rudge Park Comprehensive. The show expanded into cinema with 2011’s The Inbetweeners Movie, which set box office records for the biggest opening weekend for a British comedy, followed by an equally lucrative box-office run for its 2014 follow-up.
Claire Jones serves as producer alongside Patrick Holland for Banijay and Mark Lesbirel for Fudge Park Productions. Executive producers on the feature include Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, and Farhana Bhula for Film4, alongside Beesley and Morris.
The revival comes following an agreement established between Banijay UK, which holds rights to the intellectual property, and Morris and Beesley’s Fudge Park Productions banner. While specific plot points and a streaming premiere date remain under wraps, the film is expected to follow the characters navigating adulthood and modern dilemmas years after their previous misadventures.
