The most prominent names in the entertainment companies, including Disney, Netflix, Crunchyroll, and other major studios, have filed a lawsuit against VidSrc, one of the largest online piracy sites still operating.
According to TorrentFreak, this case is a follow-up to the September effort that shut down around 248 piracy platforms, including popular anime sites such as Anoboy, AnimeKai, and AnimesHeaven. Other global entertainment companies that will join this suit, along with the previously mentioned ones, include Apple Video Programming, Universal City Studios Productions, and Warner Bros. Entertainment. Various South Korean companies, including CJ ENM, SBS Co. Ltd, and SLL Joongang, have reportedly joined in on the suit.
The lawsuit is taking legal action in India, allegedly prompting VidSrc to change its platforms to “Russian-based domains,” which are more challenging to restrict under “Indian or Western court orders.” So, even with the New Delhi High Court ruling in favor of the plaintiffs, pressuring Russian domain name registrars to do the same is highly unlikely. This defensive move could keep VidSrc alive for the time being. With such prominent companies named in the suit, it is difficult to predict what other domains will do.
