

According to Collider, KPop Demon Hunters has been renewed for a sequel. Directors Chris Appelhans (Wish Dragon, The Boss Baby 2) and Maggie Kang (The Lego Ninjago Movie, Rise of the Guardians) were granted a partnership with Netflix Animation that includes writing and directing that will last multiple years.
Appelhans said in a statement released by Tudum, “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation and story can come together.”
Kang added: “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
KPop Demon Hunters surpassed 236 million views when it was released in the summer of 2025. The musical animation also received ten awards at the Annie awards, from best music, to best direction, and best feature. The film also secured Best Original Song for “Golden” and Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
The global phenomenon centers around Rumi, Mira, and Zoey as they battle demons to protect the human population, whilst also producing music for their band Huntrix. However, tension arises when a demon named Jinu creates a boyband named The Saja Boys to obtain more human souls.
KPop Demon Hunters stars Arden Cho (Partner Track, Agents of Secret Stuff) as Rumi, who was also awarded best voice actor for the film, May Hong (Tales of The City, New Amsterdam) as Mira,and Ji-young Yoo (We Bare Bears, Until Dawn) as Zoey. The film is available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
