Netflix Announces Film Adaptation Of Tillie Cole’s Bestseller ‘A Thousand Boy Kisses,’ Stephen Chbosky Set To Direct

In recent years, Netflix has produced several critically acclaimed text-to-film adaptations, such as Martin Scorsese’s 2019 Oscar-nominated film The Irishman and J.A. Boyona’s critically acclaimed survival story Society of the Snow. According to Deadline, sources have confirmed that Netflix plans to adapt Tillie Cole’s bestselling young adult novel A Thousand Boy Kisses for the big screen, as they look to continue their book adaptation success among a younger audience.

Stephen Chbosky, who wrote and directed the adapted version of the wildly successful 1999 young adult novel The Perks of Being Wallflower, is set to direct the upcoming Netflix film, with Liz Maccie providing the script. Chbosky’s history as both an author and successful director leads fans to have high expectations for this upcoming Netflix adaptation.

First published by Bloom Books in 2016, A Thousand Boy Kisses follows the story of seventeen-year-old Norwegian Rune Kristiansen, whose return to a sleepy town in Georgia marks the reunification of himself with his childhood crush, Poppy Litchfield. In this tear-jerking romance, Kristiansen searches to understand why Poppy cut him out of her life two years ago, with the truth revealing a heartbreak Rune could have never imagined.
