Tessa Thompson and Lily James star in writer-director Nia DaCosta’s western Little Woods, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Neon has now bought the North American rights for the film.
Little Woods tells the story of two sisters, Thompson and James, living in North Dakota. Thompson’s character works outside the law to connect residents of the town with Canadian health resources, and is trapped in the line of work when the police begin to investigate. Da Costa’s vision for the film was a western told from the perspective of women.
The film also stars Luke Kirby, James Badge Dale, and Lance Reddick, and was produced by Rachael Fung, Gabrielle Nadig, and Tim Headington.
Tessa Thompson recently appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and the long-form music video for Janelle Monáe’s album Dirty Computer. Lily James appears in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which hits theaters July 20.
