Dr. Doogie Howser and Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris has reportedly signed on to star alongside the impressive cast of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. In addition to the Tony and Emmy winner, Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Lily Sheen, Sharon Horgan, and Tiffany Haddish have been announced to star in the meta action comedy.
The film follows Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage at a low point creatively and financially in his life. To overcome his unrest, he takes a large pay day to attend a birthday party for a fan(Pascal). However, the fan has ties to a drug syndicate so the CIA tasks Nicolas Cage to take the fan down.
The film is directed and co-written by Tom Gormican, while Kevin Etten is the other scribe. Gormican’s project is taking a massive swing with its meta narrative and increasingly star studded cast. With Harris aboard, the film has gotten even more exciting.
Neil Patrick Harris is no stranger to meta comedy as he starred in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, How I Met Your Mother, and the Harold and Kumar franchise over the course of his career. On a similar note, it is interesting to note that Harris played himself in the stoner White Castle movies and it will be interesting if he plays an exaggerated version of himself, like Nicolas Cage will be playing, or if he will simply play a fictional character.
Harris has great comedic timing and will be sure to add flair to this already strange and wonderful film. Harris is one of the busier actors in the industry, just wrapping the much anticipated Matrix 4.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is currently filming and is set for a March 19, 2021 release date.
