‘Ne Zha 2’ Still No. 1 In China Box Office After Seven Weeks With Massive 17 Million Lead Over ‘John Wick Chapter 4’ Debut

Ne Zha 2 has made history again with a legendary run for China’s box office with a seven-week streak at number one and now defeated John Wick with a $17.3 million lead.  Ne Zha 2 added another RMB 148.3 million or $20.6 million for its box office lifetime accumulating a now whopping $2.064 billion. The animated epic has no sign of slowing down, even with a limited release for North American theaters the film is destroying some long-standing records while revitalizing the Chinese theaters. The box office for China has been on a decline since the pandemic many worried after a 23 percent drop to $5.8 billion from the previous year, a record low, that Chinese cinema was in danger of massively downsizing until Ne Zha 2. The recovery has been downright inspiring with Ne Zha 2 making two-fifths of the previous year’s total revenue in just seven weeks.

The Chinese Box Office had the anticipated newcomer John Wick Chapter 4 but saw only $3.3 million for its premiere being totally eclipsed by Ne Zha 2 in third was Detective Chinatown 1900, from As One Production,  earning $3 million being a hold over from the previous weekend.

Ne Zha 2 is now the fifth highest-grossing film of all time and is rapidly approaching the next juggernaut on the list with Titanic, sitting at $2.26 billion. The incredibly detailed and action-packed animation is one of the most successful blockbusters to be an international picture as well. No confirmation of sequel or other streaming premieres has been announced but it is available on Apple TV+.
