The Chinese animated sequel Ne Zha 2 has now passed a major milestone at the global box office. The film has now grossed over $2 billion, with the total currently sitting at around $2.1 billion. This means a number of things for the film. It is the highest grossing film of 2025, the highest grossing Chinese-language film of all time, the highest grossing animated film of all time and is in the top 5 highest grossing films of all time.
Ne Zha 2 recently passed blockbuster titans Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, the film has set its sights on James Cameron’s classic romance Titanic. That film sits at around $2.2 billion, which Ne Zha 2 is getting quite close to. Titanic held the title of highest grossing film of all time for over a decade, and it has never left the top 5. Ne Zha 2 is poised to leave theaters in a few weeks, but that is more than enough time to claim the number 4 slot. Plus, re-releases down the line also count toward its box office total, so it could even climb higher one day.
While James Cameron’ Titanic may be moving down a slot soon, the director is still the box office king, with both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water being in the top 5, at numbers 1 and 3 respectively. Currently, the full top 5 consists of Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic and Ne Zha 2. However, James Cameron has yet another Avatar film in the pipeline, with that film expected to cross the $2 billion mark once again. Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters this December, so we will soon see if that shakes up this list.
