Coming out of China, Ne Zha 2 continues to hold its status as a box office juggernaut, still bringing in a profit weeks after its debut. With its ongoing financial success, it’s looking to end its run among some of the heaviest hitters in box office history. The film, directed by Yang Yu, follows a group trying to preserve the physical bodies of all-powerful deities but facing many difficulties and obstacles trying to keep them from achieving their goal.
So far, Ne Zha 2 has pulled in a grand total of $1.9 billion and is still expected to grow as its run has not yet concluded. With that colossal cume already under its belt, it overtook Inside Out 2’s $1.6 billion total, making it the highest-grossing animated feature ever. Most of the gross for Ne Zha 2 comes out of China, with roughly $1.2 billion of its gross coming from the Chinese box office. The film was released over the Chinese New Year holiday, and much like the first, it became a massive hit on release.
Collider notes that estimates, thanks to Maoyan, now hold Ne Zha 2 as breaking $2 million at the global box office. If it makes it there, then it would overtake the likes of other financial titans of film like Spider-Man: No Way Home, and even rival ones like Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens.
