Natalie Portman is set to narrate Disneynature’s upcoming film Dolphin Reef, according to Deadline. The film will center on Echo, a young bottlenose dolphin who lives in a coral reef with his family. Disney illustrates Echo’s life in a narrative-like manner with the goal of piquing people’s interest and promoting awareness of environmental causes. The film will also bring attention to the societal dynamics of dolphins and the coral reef’s intricate ecosystem. Director Keith Scholey, who also headed the film for Disneynature’s Bears, will be in charge of the project.
The film will be categorized under nonfiction programming on the Disney + streaming service. Dolphin Reef joins other films in this list including Earthkeepers, Shop Class, and Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies among others. Disneynature’s most recent release, Penguins, will be offered in the Disney + streaming library beginning in 2020. The film, which depicts the life of an Adélie penguin in the harsh Arctic, has made $3.7 million at the domestic box office.
Disneynature has spread its global influence through establishing the brand in different countries. In France, the company set up a cable channel featuring its content in 2012. With the help of Shanghai Media Group, Disneynature also released a film in China titled Born In China.
