According to The Hollywood Reporter, Natalie Portman has joined the cast of the drama Vox Lux as a replacement for the main female character. Before Portman’s arrival, Rooney Mara occupied the position as the lead in Brady Corbet’s film. The storyline follows a fictional pop star, Celeste, over a span of 15 years as she rises to superstardom. Jude Law (The Young Pope) will perform alongside Portman. Famous artist Sia is also on-board to create original songs for the movie, giving an authentic credibility to the movie’s portrayal of big names in the music business.
The film is scheduled to begin production in only a few days, starting on February 1st of this year.
Portman will appear onscreen quite soon in Annihilation, starting on February 23rd. There, she plays a biologist who signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the formerly-unchanged laws of nature are completely upended. Annihilation is written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina). Portman may also be replacing another actress, as she’s in talks to take on Reese Witherspoon’s former role as the star in Pale Blue Dot, Noah Hawley’s film about an astronaut who returns from space and discovers that her sense of reality has been altered in totally unexpected ways.
