Two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts (Divergent series) is in talks to join the cast of Destin Daniel Cretton’s The Glass Castle, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Already on board are Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson (Room) – re-teaming with director Cretton from their 2013 indie Short Term 12 – and two-time Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson (Triple 9).
The Lionsgate film is based on the best-selling memoir of Jeannette Walls about a successful woman (Larson) raised in a nomadic nonconformist family. Watts will play her eccentric “excitement addict” mother and Harrelson will play her alcoholic father. Marti Noxon, Cretton, and Andrew Lanham are adapting the screenplay. Gill Netter will produce.
Watts can be seen currently on the big screen in Allegiant starring Shailene Woodley (The Fault in our Stars), and will reprise her role as Evelyn in next year’s The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Watts will next be seen in Jean-Marc Vallee’s drama Demolition opposite Jake Gyllenhall (Everest) which bows April 8th. She will also be in Farren Blackburn’s thriller Shut In later this year with Jacob Tremblay (Room), about a widowed child psychologist who rescues a young boy in a deadly winter storm.
The Glass Castle will start shooting in June in Montreal.
