Rumors surrounding the sequel to Disney’s live-action Aladdin have resurfaced; however, leading actress Naomi Scott has firmly addressed and dismissed the speculation circulating on social media about the film’s production and development status. While fans began to speculate that filming might begin soon, Scott publicly refuted those timelines, emphasizing that no schedule has been set and the film has not been officially confirmed by Disney.

Some social media posts claimed the sequel would begin filming as early as 2026. However, in interviews, Scott clarified that these rumors are unfounded, stating that nothing has been confirmed and the project remains in development. She further debunked the claims by replying to a fan account on X, @NaomiScottBrasil, which she follows. The account shared a conversation with Scott, to which the actress responded, “Completely fake… you can spread the word.”

Whether the film will move forward remains unclear. IMDb currently lists the sequel as still undergoing script revisions. Meanwhile, Mena Massoud has suggested that the likelihood of a sequel happening soon is “very unlikely at this point.”

Despite the six-year gap, fans remain hopeful that Aladdin 2 is still an active concept. The 2019 film was a major box office success, grossing $1.05 billion worldwide on a $183 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing film for both Guy Ritchie and Will Smith. While production largely depends on Disney and the cast’s availability, Screen Rant notes, “Aladdin was a bona fide hit six years ago, so it stands to reason that Disney would want to capitalize on a sequel in the future.” However, momentum alone has not been enough to move the project forward. Neither the lead nor supporting cast members have confirmed current production timelines, leaving the project’s status as “in development” with no active script-to-screen progress.
