Aladdin star Naomi Scott has been set to star in a new film alongside Hamilton star Anthony Ramos. The new film, Distant, is said to blend elements of sci-fi and comedy according to Deadline.
Distant tells the story of an asteroid miner who must acclimate to a new alien planet after crashing on their planet. The miner and one other woman are the sole survivors of the crash and must work together to survive. In addition to their survival, the pair must figure out how to get back to their home.
Will Speck and Josh Gordon (Blades of Glory) will work together to direct the feature and serve as executive producers. Spenser Cohen (Extinction) will write the script.
Scott replaced Rachel Brosnahan, who was originally supposed to star in the feature. Brosnahan was unable to appear in the film due to scheduling conflict with her smash hit Amazon show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and due to complications as a result of COVID-19. Scott is known for her breakout role in 2017’s Power Rangers and 2019’s Charlie’s Angels, in addition to her leading role in Aladdin. This is her next film role following Angels, which underperformed at the box office.
