‘My Spy’ Delayed Again to Mid-April 2020 Release

James Bond isn’t the only spy who had his film delayed at the last minute, as another major spy film set for this spring has been pushed further down the line. It was just announced that the Dave Bautista family comedy My Spy has been delayed from March 13th 2020 to April 17th 2020. This is yet another delay for the upcoming film, as My Spy has been met with countless delays over the past year since its original August 2019 release date.

This delay is most likely a result of No Time to Die getting pushed to November from its initial April release, due to the coronavirus affecting the worldwide box office sales. This gave other studios an opportunities to switch around release dates, such as Trolls: World Tour being moved from the 17th to No Time To Die‘s initial April 10th date. It seems that STX felt it was a good opportunity to do the same for My Spy, despite the fact that the film was already been released in Australia back in January.

For its initial release, My Spy was up against the Vin Diesel action film Bloodshot and Universal’s horror film The Hunt, along with competition from Pixar’s Onward being released a week prior. Now the film will be facing different competition in April, not just from Trolls: World Tour but also Fox Searchlight’s Antlers and Sony’s Charm City Kings. Hopefully all the delays will be worth it for STX Entertainment and lead to a fairly decent box office success.

My Spy is set for release on April 17th 2020.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
