According to Variety, Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) will star in the new film Sound of Metal. Already in the cast is Belgian actor and heartthrob Matthias Schoenaerts (Red Sparrow). Darius Marder is set to helm in his feature film directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Abraham Marder. The plot of the music drama is being kept under wraps, although imdb lists the following plot keywords for the movie: drummer, band, deaf man, deafness, loss of hearing. Producers are Michael Costigan and Ben Leclair.
Ahmed made a big splash as the lead in the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series The Night of. The busy British-born actor has just wrapped up production on Venom, and The Sisters Brothers. He is also set to play Hamlet in a modern day film version of the Shakespearean play. He has sold a 9-part drama series to the BBC, entitled Englistan.
Cooke recently starred in Ready Player One from Warner Bros, and in Thoroughbreds from Focus Features. She has just completed filming the romantic drama Life Itself, which is set to bow in theaters on September 21.
Production on Sound of Metal is set to start next week in Boston.
