The incident occurred on March 17, 2026, and saw three young men falsely shout “gun” in a crowded movie theater. This transpired at Landmark Cinemas theater in Whitby, Ontario, with Durham Regional Police stating,
Further investigation revealed that the males were creating social media content and had intentionally created a false disturbance to generate a reaction they could film.
The charges against the three men include causing a disturbance and mischief, with two of the men being revealed as 23-year-olds Fique Wamiq Ayub and Jaiden Joseph-Anthony Mosquera. The third man’s identity has not been revealed due to him being a minor, just 17 years of age. The disturbance sent fear rocketing through the crowd as moviegoers rushed towards the exits.
With movie theater pranks making waves on social media, it is important to remember that, depending on jurisdiction and situation, you can be charged with a felony for making such false claims. Responding to the call, Durham Regional Police arrived at the scene prepared for “an armed person call”. They were pointed towards the three men, also asking for the public’s assistance in building a case against the suspects.
Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries at the scene.
