According to Deadline, Sony’s CGI adaptation of of the 150-year old children’s book Peter Rabbit will feature Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson as the villainous Mr. McGregor. Gleeson is coming off the successes of Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Revenant and Brooklyn.
The film will be directed by Will Gluck (Easy A). Gleeson will co-star with Ross Bryne (Neighbors) who will play a live action character while Jamse Corden (The Late Show) will voice the title character. Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby) will also provide their voices off screen. Production will start January of 2017 and a release date is set for August 2018.
The production company, VFX studio Animal Logic is responsible for the phenomenal success of The LEGO Movie. Columbia Pictures has also partnered with the publishers of Peter Rabbit, Frederick Warne & Co. (part of Penguin Random House UK) for the movie in order to initiate a worldwide marketing campaign.
Again, the film is set to be released August 2018.
