In an uncanny turn of events, a movie theater in Argentina faced a dangerous immersive experience during a screening of the highly popular Final Destination Bloodlines. At Cinema Ocho in La Plata in Argentina’s Buenos Aires, the theater’s audience was treated to a real-life fright accompanying their movie experience when the auditorium’s ceiling collapsed mid-movie.

Among the 40 affected theatergoers was 29-year-old Fiamma Villaverde, who attended the screening with her 11-year-old daughter, as well as a friend. “A really loud noise was heard,” Villaverde told Argentine publication Infobae. “At first, we thought it was a part of the movie because we were so engrossed, but immediately after a piece of rubble fell on me.” She also added that while she was struck by debris over several parts of her body during the May 19th showing, “It didn’t hit my head because I was slightly leaning over the armrests.”

Video had been captured of a large hole in the theater’s ceiling, with debris scattering the floor and aisles. While the theater had not since provided a statement or explanation on the accident, it is suspected that heavy rainfall contributed to the damage.

The Final Destination series, which debuted 25 years ago, follows survivors of various freak accidents, who each soon meet grisly fates as they realize they can’t cheat death. The latest installment, Bloodlines, marks the franchise’s best debut, having earned over $100 million globally.
