Orlando Bloom and David Harbour are set to join the cast of Sony Pictures and PlayStation film adaptation of the PlayStation game Gran Turismo. The script is by Jason Hall, (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) and is based on a true story. The movie has been in talks for around 10 years, but the film is now finally taking strives to the big screen. Many people were skeptical about how writers can create the plot, and incorporate the Playstation game.
In a 2013 interview with Collider, Brunetti confirms the plot and says “A lot of people are like, ‘How the hell do you make a movie out of a video game that’s basically a driving simulator?’ And actually, the story is they did an online competition where they narrowed it down from 25,000 people competing online.”
The project is described as “ the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race-car driver.”
Archie Madekwe is set to play the teen and David Harbour as the retired driver that helps him learn how to drive. Orlando Bloom will play a hungry marketing exec who is selling motor racing as a sport.
The Gran Turismo movie is set to release on August 11, 2023.
