Morgan Freeman gave an emotional eulogy for Gene Hackman at the 2025 Oscars tonight. This comes following Hackman’s mysterious passing last week alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa in their New Mexico home. Hackman starred in two films alongside Morgan Freeman, Unforgiven and Under Suspicion. Freeman called Hackman in his eulogy a “generous performer” and “a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work.” He also recalled something Hackman had said before his passing: “I don’t think about legacy, I just hope people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.” Freeman’s eulogy served as a precursor to the annual “In Memoriam” segment of The Oscars, in which Gene Hackman was featured.
