Magnusson has produced more than 125 movies and TV shows, including the Emmy-winning Island on Bird Street, and the Oscar-winning short films Election Night and Helium. Most recently, he produced last year’s TIFF premiere I Kill Giants (featured above).
Netflix is offering production budgets of around two to six million dollars for a yet-to-be-determined number of movies from the region, ranging from thrillers to romantic comedies from a variety of Nordic filmmakers. Magnusson will begin pitching movies to Netflix for funding in June and July, with pre-production plans for the fall of this year.
One of the films to be pitched to Netflix is the biopic about American-Danish pianist and comedian Victor Borge, which Magnusson is developing with writer Mette Lisby and producer Jesper Baehrenz. It will be interesting to see what will come of the rather out-of-the-blue deal, but we can expect a solid amount of unique films coming from Magnusson in the near future.
