Morbius, the Sony, and Marvel film starring Jared Leto, will be longer than its sister film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This announcement leaves fans wondering if less than two hours will be enough time to explain the mystery of Dr. Michael Morbius.
Cinemark has released the official run time for the thriller, at an hour and forty-eight minutes. The film will be shorter than Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel’s latest film. This runtime leaves concerns as to whether or not it will be capable of introducing an entirely new character and drawing him into the much larger Marvel Universe. The film is set to release on January 28th, 2022, and that run time makes it almost twenty minutes longer than Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but an hour shorter than No Way Home, which clocked in at two hours and thirty minutes.
The minimal runtime will be all that fans get to understand the story of Jared Leto’s, Dr. Michael Morbius, who finds a cure for his rare blood disorder at the cost of both himself and those that he loves. Morbius is a well-known staple of the Marvel comics and is usually connected to Blade, the vampire hunter, as well as our friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man. On the other hand, Venom is relatively unknown, and audiences are unsure how the vampire film will connect to the MCU or Sony’s other Spider-Man Projects.
The film itself will have a lot to cover within such a short run time since Morbius is not a well-known character, and this is his first appearance in the films. The short run-time may allow the film to focus more heavily on the storyline surrounding the character’s vampirism instead of treading over tired tropes surrounding him as a monster to appeal to a wider audience.
