Announced on Friday, Moonlight actor André Holland will be joining the cast of crime-thriller Widows.
The film is already set to star recent Golden Globe winner Viola Davis, and Broadway star Cynthia Erivo.
Holland has previously appeared in films such as Selma and 42, as well as season 6 of FX’s American Horror Story and Cinemax’s The Knick. Look for him to be featured as Principal Jenkins in A Wrinkle in Time.
Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) will direct. This will be his first feature film since winning the 2014 Oscar for Best Picture for 12 Years a Slave.
The story following a crew of criminals who are killed during a robbery, and then follows their widowed spouses who pick up their criminal activities where they left off. The film is based on the 1983 British miniseries.
Widows will be produced by New Regency Pictures and See-Saw Films. New Regency Pictures has produced films such as The Revenant, Birdman, Gone Girl, and 12 Years a Slave. See-Saw Films is the production company responsible for this year’s critically-acclaimed Lion, as well as 2010’s award-winning The King’s Speech.
Widows has no set release day.
