Momentum Pictures acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the Aubrey Plaza film Black Bear, which initially premiered at Sundance.
Plaza, who was most recently seen in 2019’s reboot of Child’s Play and the FX show Legion, as well as the Parks and Recreation reunion episode last week, will star alongside Christopher Abbott and Sarah Gadon. Abbot previously starred in the Hulu miniseries Catch-22, while Gadon was most recently seen in the 2019 film American Woman.
Black Bear, follows an expecting couple (played by Abbot and Gadon) who are confronted by an out of town guest (Plaza) staying with them. The guest suffers from writer’s block and retreated to the woods to find peace and inspiration, but instead finds herself intertwined in an intense love triangle.
The film hails from Productivity Media and Oakhurst Entertainment with Marina Grasic and Jai Khanna as producers and Lawrence Michael Levine directing. “Black Bear is a thriller that depicts broken characters wrestling with a seemingly shattered world that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. I am thrilled to have such a talented trio of actors on board, ” said Levine to Deadline.
While there has been no word on Momentum Pictures’ release date for the film, Black Bear will likely be released sometime next year.
