Production has wrapped in Brooklyn on Alone, a psychological thriller short directed by Garrett Patten and co-written with Tiziano Tucci, featuring an ensemble led by BAFTA nominee Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place), Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur (CODA), Emmy nominee Nyle DiMarco (Deaf President Now!), and two-time Tony winner Phylicia Rashad (Creed).
Centering on a majority deaf cast, the narrative follows Samantha (Simmonds), an isolated deaf woman who acquires an advanced humanoid robot engineered to assist with daily living. However, as the synthetic companion maps her behavioral patterns, emotional responses, and personal history, their evolving relationship spirals into a dangerous psychological entanglement. James Broderick and Cameron Sault round out the supporting cast.
Patten and Tucci produced the project alongside Brenda Linkous for DFA and Austin Lantero for Range Media Partners. William Lowery of Range Media Partners and David Keinath of DFA serve as executive producers, with Orlando Herrera acting as director of photography.
With post-production now underway, the creative team is actively packaging the project as a proof-of-concept to develop into a full-length feature film, aiming to retain the principal cast for the expanded production. Patten noted that the project is designed to interrogate contemporary anxieties surrounding generative artificial intelligence, human isolation, and the limits of synthetic companionship.
