Actress Milla Jovovich, best known for her roles in films like The Fifth Element (1997) and Resident Evil (2002), is now in advanced talks to star in a feature adaptation of another of Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin’s stories, this one called In the Lost Lands. The film will be based on three of Martin’s short stories blended together and stays within the fantasy realm the author knows so well.
The three stories are complete in and of themselves, but will be interwoven for the film. One thread features a sorceress called Gray Alys (Jovovich), called on to save her city by venturing into a ghostly realm called the Lost Lands. Another other thread feature a young barbarian girl named Sharra fighting a dragon in order to be reunited with her love Kaydar. And, from the story called Bitterblooms – which surprisingly takes place on a spaceship – a young girl is enchanted by a lonely witch only to find out it’s all a trick.
The only other casting news available is that the movie will also star Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds). The movie was adapted for the screen and will be directed by Constantin Werner (The Pagan Queen), and is being produced and marketed by Myriad Pictures. Production is set to start in the final quarter of this year and distribution rights will be sold at the European Film Market in Berlin. Martin’s other adaptation, Game of Thrones, has seen tremendous success during its airing on HBO, rolling out a whole franchise that started with his high fantasy adventure series called A Song of Ice and Fire. Fans of his will surely be excited for more fantasy, even if it is not set in Westeros or Essos.
