Tender Loving Care, which premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, swept the festival’s closing ceremony, winning three awards. The dramatic comedy, which Mike Leigh has said will be his final film as a director, won the Golden Shell for Best Film, the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay, and the Silver Shell for the lead performance of Kate O’Flynn. That last award O’Flynn shared with Asta Kamma August for her performance in Hans Petter Moland’s Growth of the Soil, a film that also won Best Cinematography.

Also notable are the two Audience Award winners. The Audience Award for Best Film went to the Spanish epic La Bola Negra. The film continues to dominate the festival circuit, having previously won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It follows three interconnected queer stories of three men over three decades.

The documentary Naza won the Audience Award for Best European Film. Directed by Israeli documentary filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the film has been among the most acclaimed on the festival circuit. It features the two filmmakers revealing in detail the different targeting systems used by the Israeli military in the War in Gaza.
