On an emotional night, Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan both won SAG awards for their performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) as Evelyn Wang and Waymond Wang, respectively.

Yeoh won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. She is the first Asian actress ever to receive the award.

“I think if I speak my heart will explode,” Yeoh said at the podium. “SAG-AFTRA, to get this from you, who understands what it is to get here. Every one of you know the journey, the roller coaster ride, the ups and downs. But most important we never give up. I thank you for your love and support because I know I’m up against Titans.”

Yeoh was at a loss for words during the emotional moment.

“This is not just for me. This is for every little girl that looks for me… We want to be seen. We want to be heard. And tonight, you have shown us that it is possible.”

Following Yeoh, Quan won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in another emotional and teary-eyed moment.

“Recently, I was told that if I were to win tonight, I would become the very first Asian actor to win in this category. When I heard this, I quickly realized that this moment no longer belongs to just to me. It also belongs to everyone who has asked for change.”

Quan spoke about how he stepped away from acting because there were few opportunities, but now they’re celebrating numerous Asian actors like James Hong, Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Hong Chau, and Harry Shum Jr. 

In addition to the two historical awards, Everything Everywhere All at Once also won two other awards.

Jamie Lee Curtis also won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role award for portraying Deidre Beaubeirdra in the film. The film also won the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award. (Via Deadline)
