Michael Polish (The Astronaut Farmer) is set to direct the feature film adaptation of Speed-the-Plow, the classic David Mamet film industry-set stage play. It follows a new studio head under pressure to find the studio’s next big hit and the conflicts he’s faced with, all while trying to playing the industry’s games.
The original 1988 Broadway hit starred Joe Mantegna (Cars 2), Ron Silver (Timecop), and Madonna. Lindsay Lohan played one of the leads in the 2014 revival on London’s West End.
The script for the upcoming film has been written by Mamet himself. Mamet has previously written the screenplays for acclaimed films including The Verdict (1982), The Untouchables (1987) and Wag the Dog (1997) and both wrote and directed original works including The Spanish Prisoner (1997) and State and Main (2000). Previous plays of his to be adapted for the big screen include Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) and Oleana (1994).
Casting is set to commence shortly with a targeted start date of July 30th.
