An exciting first trailer for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash was released during the Super Bowl today. The expected film, which has been developing for several years, stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. After the actor’s several conflicts with the law and scandals, there were doubts about the film featuring him as Flash for a while. Recently James Gunn defended the film and actor, stating that “It may be one of the best superhero films ever made.”
Miller had already performed as Flash in the other three DC Cinematic Universe films: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. His solo movie was highly expected by fans until the actor started to be involved in controversies. However, fans have now a different reason to be excited about the movie now and that is Michael Keaton’s comeback as Batman.
The teaser gave us a complete look to Keaton’s return as the iconic superhero. It was known that the actor was reprising this role, however unclear whether his participation would play a major part in the story. The teaser confirms that the character is importantly involved in the plot as an ally to Flash. Keaton’s voiceover introduces the trailer, later we discover that voice belongs to him when he says his signature phrase: “I’m Batman”. Keaton commented about his comeback as the superhero in 2021:
“Frankly, in the back of my head, I always thought, ‘I bet I could go back and nail that motherf—ker…And so I thought, ‘Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can pull that off.'”
About his experience playing Batman again, Keaton stated:
“[It was] weirdly and ironically easy. A little bit emotional. Just a rush of memories…Without giving anything away, which I can’t, basically the first shot, not of the entire movie but let’s say the introduction [of Batman], is so good that when we walked on and started talking about a couple of shots and the angles, I went ‘whoa, this is big. This is great.’ I don’t even mean for me. Just the imagery, it’s great. And reminiscent, to some degree, of Tim Burton.”
That imagery Keaton is referring to is evident in the trailer released today. The visuals of the film promise to be a true cinematic experience and gives us glimpse of the story: Flash travels through time to avoid his mother’s killing, however the changes he makes create a multiverse. We can see how characters replicate, Barry Allen himself is presented as two different versions and Ben Affleck is also shown as Batman in a shot.
