Lionsgate is bringing Gerard De Villiers’ action-espionage novel series ‘S.A.S‘ to life with the upcoming spy-thriller film titled ‘Malko.‘ According to the Hollywood Reporter, Michael Fassbender is set to star in the film as the titular lead Malko Linge, as well as serving as Malko‘s producer. Fassbender will be working closely alongside screenwriter Eric Warren Singer, who will be penning the script for this film.
Lionsgate has secured the rights to De Villier’s catalog of espionage thrillers whose current serialization spans across 200 books, many of which have been sold worldwide. The ‘S.A.S.’ franchise follows the adventures of, Malko Linge, an Austrian nobleman and freelance CIA operative who spent his formative years in a special Nazi work camp for captured spies. This particular film from Lionsgate will be primarily based on De Villier’s book ‘Checkpoint Charlie.’ Fassbender will be prodcucing Malko through his DMC film production company.
The chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Joe Drake, brought in producers Lars Sylvest (Black Magic), Greg Shapiro (Kingsgate Films) and Thorsten Schumacher (Rocket Science’s) to work on Malko. Current executive producers for the film include Eric Warren Singer, Jason Clark, and DMC’s Conor McCaughan. So far there haven’t been anymore cast or crew members announced apart from Fassbender.
