Michael B. Jordan, known for his credits in Creed, Fruitvale Station, and Black Panther, will be honored with the Icon Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for his performance in Sinners. The festival is scheduled to take place from January 2nd to January 13th at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the Film Awards event set for January 3rd.
Festival Chairman, Nachhatter Singh Chandi, spoke about the decision to honor Jordan for his performance, saying,
Michael B. Jordan once again proves why he’s been one of the most compelling performers for the past two decades. In Sinners, his reunion with Ryan Coogler yields a bold and intricate performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Michael’s ability to inhabit two distinct souls with such power and nuance is nothing short of extraordinary. For this remarkable achievement, and for his impressive body of work, we are proud to honor him with the Palm Springs International Film Awards Icon Award.
Coogler wrote and directed Sinners, marking it as his fifth collaboration with Jordan, which centers on “twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, to open a juke joint. But their opening night is soon derailed by an evil presence.” The feature also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmii Mosaku, and Jayme Law.
Previous honorees of the Icon Award include Glenn Close, Willem Dafoe, Robert Duvall, Lady Gaga, Paul Giamatti, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep.
