The first plot details for Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man installment have been revealed. The Jon Watts-directed trilogy ended with the world forgetting who Peter Parker is. Peter saves the day, but not without consequences. Aunt May is now dead, and everyone else closest to him has forgotten who he is.
Producer Amy Pascal spoke to Deadline and revealed how Spider-Man 4 will continue the story following No Way Home. Some of the most famous Spider-Man comics see Peter Parker give up being the web-slinging hero, but the new movie is changing things up.
“We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker,” Pascal said. “And that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about.”
The plot details give a vague idea of where the film is heading. Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, with Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton helming the film. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon have not yet been confirmed to return as MJ and Ned, and since their characters have forgotten Peter’s identity, it’s a toss-up on whether they will appear and for how much of the film.
Fans have also been speculating about the film’s villain. Following Venom: The Last Dance, some fans want to see Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock go up against Holland’s Spider-Man. However, it is possible that the upcoming Kraven The Hunter film could be connected to Spider-Man 4.
Fans are also hoping the fourth installment will bring Spidey back down to the neighborhood level in NYC. Although, the revealed plot details sound slightly different than what fans are hoping for.
The rumored plot synopsis reads: “Following the events of Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man. However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his friends and forcing Peter to reconsider his promise. With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves.”
According to Tom Holland, Spider-Man 4 will begin filming next summer.
