While Marvel fans haven’t been completely starved of MCU X-Men content, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine and the appearance of Fox X-Men characters in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, they haven’t yet seen X-Men directly within the main MCU universe. Recently, Jake Schreier, who previously directed last year’s Thunderbolts and is set to direct an MCU X-Men project, provided an update on Marvel’s current plans for the project.
In an interview with Collider to promote the release of Beef Season 2, which he directed all eight episodes of, Schrier discussed the plans he’s made with Marvel over the MCU X-Men projects. Here’s what he had to say:
I think that, obviously, first things first: We have to make one great movie. But we always have an eye as we’re talking about it too. What are the different places this can go? What are the places that [have] been in the comics? What hasn’t been explored as much, and how can that be incorporated? And what are some of the different avenues that we could take that feel like the kind of less-trodden path that we could go down? But those ideas are always out there, as we have the discussions.
From this, Schrier has seemingly revealed possible plans to release multiple MCU X-Men projects, if this first one is successful and well-received. Time will tell if these plans come to fruition. Until then, MCU fans can enjoy Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, currently streaming on Disney+, and look forward to the next set of MCU theatrical releases: Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31 and Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th.
