According to Deadline, a new psychological thriller Straight Lies is set to star Emmy nominee Mckenna Grace, who will also be serving as an executive producer. Alex Kalymnios will direct and Mandalay Pictures will produce with production of the film slated for this summer in North Carolina.
Straight Lies is set in 1990 and focuses on the war on drugs. The film follows a false accusation of drug use that leads to a teen girl’s captivity in a government-sponsored rehabilitation facility. The script, which was an Academy Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting semi-finalist, was written by Ren Trella and inspired by real events from her teen years.
In a statement, Grace told Deadline, “I am so honored to bring this compelling story to the screen. After speaking with our amazing writer Ren and hearing her true story of what she endured and based the script, I knew this was going to be a heartbreaking, but necessary project to make.”
Kalymnios also made a statement, saying, “I am so honored to be directing this haunting and compelling story inspired by true events and I’m thrilled Mckenna Grace will be leading us through this shocking and emotional nightmare of one girl’s fight to survive STRAIGHT.”
