Maya Da Costa Joins Ensemble Cast Of Upcoming ‘Paranormal Activity’ Installment

Actress Maya Da Costa has officially signed on to co-star in the next installment of the Paranormal Activity horror franchise. Da Costa joins previously announced cast members Chase Yi and Sonia Mena in the upcoming feature film, which is currently maintaining strict confidentiality regarding its plot details and character profiles.

The eighth entry in the found-footage supernatural series is slated for a global theatrical release on May 21, 2027. Filmmaker Ian Tuason, who recently directed the sound-centric supernatural horror film Undertone, is attached to direct and write the screenplay. The production will be jointly financed and produced by Paramount Pictures alongside Blumhouse Productions and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, with Paramount overseeing the film’s worldwide distribution.

The franchise’s creative origins date back to Oren Peli’s original 2009 Paranormal Activity, a minimalist, micro-budget feature that followed a young couple recording their home to document nocturnal supernatural phenomena. The film went on to generate approximately $194 million at the global box office, becoming one of the most commercially profitable films in cinematic history and driving a renewed industry interest in found-footage horror. Peli returns to produce the upcoming installment under his Solana Films banner, alongside franchise mainstays Jason Blum and James Wan. Executive producers for the project include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, Dan Slater, and Cody Calahan, while Alayna Glasthal will oversee development for the production team.

Da Costa’s attachment to the horror film follows her recent role as Coley in Focus Features’ Girls Like Girls, the theatrical adaptation of Hayley Kiyoko’s bestselling novel. Her upcoming projects include a role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network sequel, The Social Reckoning. Da Costa’s additional television and film credits encompass FX’s Under the Bridge, Disney’s Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, and Netflix’s live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
