The opening lines that started a revolution, a cultural icon and a massive fan base- Star Wars is one of the most beloved sci-fi epics of all time. From the memorable characters, the colorful light-sabers and that iconic theme by the legendary John Williams; nearly every movie-goer on the planet is familiar with the world of Star Wars. If you can believe it, The Empire Strikes Back is forty years old now and is returning to the big screen in honor of its age. Sure, you can view the film on Disney+ or the DVD collection that’s stored on your shelves, but what could be a better way to experience the thrill of seeing the film on the silver screen?!
Released on May 21, 1980 The Empire Strikes Back was well-received by critics and fans alike and was the highest grossing film of 1980. As the franchise grew it was agreed that this second entry in the original trilogy (or fifth film in chronological order) was the best of the franchise. It’s darker themes and emotional impact, not to forget the one of the most iconic movie twists ever, is also known as one of the best sequels ever made. The Godfather Part II of the space opera if you will.
The Empire Strikes Back will be released in theaters nationwide starting this Thursday September 24 and will run all weekend long. Tickets are available now but be warned that theaters are implementing their social distancing guidelines so it’s best to order your tickets as soon as possible as to secure your seat. Be sure to check your local listings to see if the movie is playing near you!
So, return to a galaxy far far away, jump onboard the Millennium Falcon and prepare to face off once again against the villainous Darth Vader. It may not have been released over the summer due to the Covid-19 pandemic but being able to see Star Wars on the big screen is anybody’s wish come true.
