Max, in a continuation of a distribution deal with A24, will host both Civil War and I Saw The TV Glow, for streaming. Civil War will premiere on September 13 while I Saw The TV Glow on September 20. After this, both films will premiere on the HBO channel the next day, September 14th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and September 21st at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT respectively.
Civil War has been A24’s largest production yet, an action-packed thriller set in an alternate, near future, dystopian United States of America, on the cusp of a second civil war breaking out. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, and Nick Offerman as journalists on their way to the capital before the rebel forces rush it. The film grossed A24 $122 million at the box office.
I Saw The TV Glow is a much more personal horror story, starring Justice Smith as a stressed teenager who, with his friends, begins watching a late-night show that slowly starts to corrupt their sense of reality. While the horror show come to life dazzled critics, the film only pulled $5 million at the box office.
A24 will continue to have Max and HBO as their host for home distribution following the ending of their contract with Showtime.
