Between Peacemaker season two and Superman flying into home releases, it’s safe to say the new DC Universe is off to a successful start. Next year will see Clayface join the lineup, and one of the film’s stars has even confirmed that it won’t be in the same style as a typical comic book movie.
Clayface, based on the iconic Batman villain, follows an actor who is faced with the idea of losing popularity. In a desperate attempt to stay relevant, he tries a black market drug, which gives him the bizarre ability of being able to shape his body into whatever he wants.
Already confirmed to star in the movie was Tom Rhys Harries as the titular character, alongside Naomi Ackie. Recently, Max Minghella has been one of several announced to star in the film as well, with Eddie Marsan and Jessica Grundle also joining.
While talking to Collider about another film of his, Minghella was of course asked about Clayface. Minghella explained that he appreciated one of director James Watkins’ previous works, Eden Lake, which falls into the horror genre like Clayface will.
He said that Watkins was “uniquely suited” to directing Clayface, which is the first time he will be appearing in live action.
“If you look at his whole resume, he’s worked in all these different spaces that sort of equal the movie we’re making, so I can’t imagine anybody else doing it,” he said.
Clayface hits theaters September 11th, 2026.
