Some new additions are brewing for the upcoming film Operation Mincemeat. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey), Johnny Flynn (Beast), and Tom Wilkinson (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) have all pair up with Colin Firth and Kelly Macdonald on the WWII dram directed by John Madden according to Deadline.
Reuniting with Firth after previously producing The King’s Speech, Madden also casted Hattie Morahan of Official Secrets, Simon Russell Beale of Mary Queen Of Scots, Paul Ritter of Chernobyl, and Mark Gatiss of Sherlock to feature in the film. Madden confirmed that filming would begin later in December in Spain and London. Adapting the screenplay is Michelle Ashford of Masters of Sex fame, which was originally derived from Ben Intyre’s eponymous novel.
The film is set in 1943 and focuses on two intelligence officers named Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley, both of whom must tinker a plan titled “Operation Mincemeat” in order to fool the Nazis into believing that the Allies will invade southern Europe by entering Greece as opposed to Sicily. The plans they compiled involve taking a dead body and quipping it with false documents on the coast of Spain, setting a trap for the Nazis.
A release date for the film has not yet been confirmed.
