Matthew Lillard will reprise his role as the iconic Stu Macher in Scream 7. He is the latest of several franchise veterans confirmed to return to the beloved horror franchise. The all-star cast of Scream 7 already includes Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans, and Scott Foley in an unknown role.
Lillard took to Instagram to share a video saying he was returning as Stu. The video is of Lillard writing one of Stu’s iconic lines from the first film: “My Mom And Dad Are Gonna Be Soo Mad At Me!!” In the original Scream, Sidney killed Stu by dropping a TV on his head. It appears that, somehow, he will make a return in the latest installment of the Scream franchise.
After Melissa Barrera was dropped from the film and Jenna Ortega stated she would not return due to scheduling conflicts, the franchise had to change gears in terms of the direction the film would go without the Carpenter sisters as the leads. With Lillard returning, it shows the franchise is relying on fan favorites to carry on the legacy of the franchise.
It’s important to note that Lillard’s return means there will be two former Ghostface actors appearing in the newest Scream. Foley played Roman Bridger in Scream 3, although it is unclear if he will return as his also deceased character or play a new character.
Scream 7 will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
