Matthias Schoenaerts Added to ‘The Danish Girl’

Mathias Schoenaerts (The Drop) has joined the already impressive cast for director Tom Hooper’s (The King’s SpeechThe Danish Girl according to Deadline.

Schoenaerts is just the latest actor join the movie. Last month, Amber Heard joined the adaptation of the David Ebershoff novel. It follows a married couple of painters in the 1930, Einar and Gerda Wergener (Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Kikander). Enar Wergner was one of the first men to undergo a gender transformation operation.

Schenaerts’ role hasn’t been confirmed. Most recently, the actor was in last year’s The Drop, opposite Tom Hardy (Locke) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus). It won’t be his first period-film, as he also has a role in the Alan Rickman-directed A Little Chaos.

No release date has been announced for The Danish Girl, but look for a release during awards season as Hooper’s last two films, Les Miserables and The King’s Speech, both had plenty of awards buzz.
