Mary Jane Dropped from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

That’s right true believers, audiences will have to wait patiently to see Marvel’s favorite red head make her appearance on the Big Screen.Sony pictures announced that both The Amazing Spider Man 3 and The Amazing Spider Man 4 have been scheduled for 2016 and 2018 respectively and in an attempt to have plenty to work with (character/plot wise), MJ and Peter’s future romance has been placed on the back burner until the third film.

Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) landed the role of Mary Jane Watson last year, and it had been rumored that the sub-plot of TASM2 could revolve around a bizarre love triangle between Mary Jane, Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacey (played by Emma Stone). But according to Woodley “…based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing Mary Jane until the next film.”

Could this mean what fans of the film series have suspected all along? (Potential Spoilers!) Will Gwen Stacey meet her demise at the hands of Spidey’s new foe? This was her fate in the comic books, and when it happened in 1973 on the pages of “The Night Gwen Stacey Died” (Amazing Spider Man vol.1 #121-122) it was a defining tragedy in the life of the web-slinger. But Electro (played by Jamie Fox), the villain in TASM2 was not responsible for her death. Needless to say, anticipation and speculation will continue for this film right up until opening weekend.
