Mary J. Blige to Star in ‘Body Cam’

Malik Vitthal, director of the 2014 crime drama Imperial Dreams, is directing the horror-thriller Body Cam starring Mary J. Blige for Paramount Players.

Blige was nominated for two Oscars for Mudbound, and appeared in Rock of Ages and Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. She also received Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for her work in Mudbound. Blige’s music credits include nine Grammy wins, not to mention almost three decades worth of groundbreaking rap, hip-hop, and R&B albums.

Richmond Riedel, Nicholas McCarthy, and John Ridley wrote the script for Body Cam, which tells the story of LAPD officers who are haunted by the spirit of a young black person killed by two white cops. The haunting is tied to the destruction of body cam footage in an attempt to cover up the murder.

Blige will appear in the Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy, which is set to be released later this year.
