Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Release Date & Casting Info

As part of the ambitious Phase 3 roll-out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) upcoming slate, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed release dates and some casting details for their lineup, including the much-anticipated Captain America: Civil War.

The film will feature Chris Evans reprising his role as Captain America, joined by Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.  The plot harkens back to a storyline used in the comics, in which Captain America went up against Iron Man. The fight is over the Superhero Registration Act, requiring superheroes to register with the government. Feige however, said that the movie will make the issue less about registering, and more about officially signing up to work for the government. Marvel will be using this battle between two of its superheroes to kick off an even greater conflict meant to drive the next round of its superhero films.

Evans and Downey Jr. joined forces on stage at yesterday’s event, to the delight of the crowd.  They were soon joined by Chadwick Boseman (42, Get On Up), who is slated to appear in the film, as Black Panther.  Boseman will follow that up with November 2017’s Black Panther, as the first Marvel hero of color to topline a feature.

Anthony and Joe Russo are expected to direct Captain America: Civil War, the follow up to this year’s hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Civil War is slated to open on May 6th, 2016.
